The bridge over the Kalamazoo River in New Richmond

Recreation in West Michigan is far from limited to just the glorious lazy Summers at the world's finest white sand, beaches of the Third Coast.

For starters, there are the lovely Spring mornings over the beautiful Kalamazoo River. And,of course, the very best view is from the upper porch at the New Richmond House.

Just upstream, on the Kalamazoo, is the expansive forty square mile Ottawa Marsh State game area, teeming with wildlife and beautiful woods

Nearby, in Saugatuck, Douglas, Holland and other areas, are Michigan's best state parks with great beaches, trails, woodlands, and great cross country skiing in the Winter months.

Ten miles downstream is Saugatuck/Douglas with fishing, boating and sailing on the 90 mile wide Lake Michigan. The Saugatuck-Douglas area has many fine shops, restaurants and other attractions as well as charter fishing expeditions.

Just a few miles North, is Holland and Lake Macatawa with more fishing & boating opportunities. The annual tulip festival is in nearby Holland every mid-May. That festival has been a big part of Holland for most of the last century and always draws big crowds. The New Richmond house, just a few minutes away, provides your most peaceful environment away from the crowds and packed motels in the area, after you've enjoyed a full day of the Festival's activities.

Shopping for that special gift or artwork at the many fine galleries in and around Saugatuck and Douglas
(ThirdStone Gallery north of Saugatuck is one of my favorites and in fact, one of the best places in the entire world for the finest and most innovative contemporary fine art). The galleries in and around Saugatuck are well-known to art hunters from around the country and the world.

The Blue Coast Artists studio-galleries in the Glenn and Fennville area, are very popular with their many varied offerrings and their famous Spring and Fall studio Open Houses. These include Vesuvius Gallery & Fiasco art glass, Jessica Bohus' Blue Roan Studio, Ed Gray's Miskwabik Studio, Mark Williams Blue Star Pottery, Black River Studio & Fox Glove Studios.

While you're in the neighboorhood, be sure to take a look at Sunset Junque for the most eclectic array of cool old arty objects, great junk, and funky stuff from all over the country. I heard a recent rumor that host Ray just bought a complete circus! Can't wait to see what turns up there from that.

In addition, some of the country's best antique hunting grounds are all around the area with all sorts of unique treasures to be found.

Your stay at New Richmond House will provide you with easy, convenient access to all this and much more. EMAIL us for the availability of the dates you want for your West Michigan vacation odyssey.
