BOATING, CANOEING AND FISHING IN AND AROUND NEW RICHMOND

Just outside your door of the New Richmond House is the beautiful Kalamazoo River; a great place for boating, fishing and canoeing. Lake Michigan is downstream only ten miles to the West .

Also just a few miles downstream from New Richmond House, is Saugatuck and /Douglas with fishing, boating and sailing on the 90 mile wide Lake Michigan. The Saugatuck-Douglas area has many charter fishing expeditions on the big lake.

Just a few miles North, is Holland and Lake Macatawa with more fishing & boating opportunities.

The Kalamazoo River is normally rated class 1, there is no white water. This makes for a canoe outing anyone can enjoy, novice or expert. It allows for a leisurely ride on a mild current that courses approximately 14 miles through the Allegan State Forest and hundreds of acres of wildlife refuge supporting a variety of wildlife from many types of waterfowl, swans , herons , turtles, eagles, kingfishers, and other varieties unique to the Kalamazoo watershed, to foxes and many deer. The Kalamazoo is also famous for its fish population, especially the seasonal runs of trout and salmon. Photographic opportunities abound to the stealthy canoeist.

They operate under a special permit authorized by the Michigan Dept. of Natural Resources, and will provide you with additional information, rules and regulations, to make your trip both safe and enjoyable.
